"Sentence has to be such that Mr. Tree is never released to society"

"I have heard a lot of cases, I don't think I have ever heard a case where events are so senseless and defy logic," said Judge Reinholtsen before he sentenced Bodhi Tree.

"Sentence has to be such that Mr. Tree is never released to society. "Those were the words as Judge Reinholtsen sentenced Bodhi Tree.

He has to serve consecutive sentences  but the basic gist is he has to serve 75 years and even then with minimum parole times on other terms, it is another 25 so it would be 100 years before he is eligible for parole.

Tree sat with with an attitude, no remorse and after sentence looked at bailiffs and said"Allright, ready."

A friend who has known him all his life even wrote to the Judge asking he be put away. "There is no safe place around hi," said the friend.

You can read the details of his sentence in other media coverage, I prefer to focus on Christina, Sunshine, Rhett, their family and friends.

News is about people, sometimes, those we love and lose unexpectedly.

  1. Thank you, John, for all your posts. It was a pleasure to meet you in late July as I sat in the courtroom hearing words of truth come out of the inmates that testified. Since I live in Turkey, I can pretty much say those must have been the best days for me to be in the courtroom. A huge weight of anxiety was lifted from my heart when I heard these men repeat what Bodhi Tree did. I have come to realize that my son's death has effected so very many people, not just Our family back home in Michigan. I remember one of your posts was about the Love that Alan and Christina both gave to others freely without any expectations back. Earlier in the evening, Alan gave Bodhi his last $5 to buy cigarettes, then the man came back with a gun to pay him back for his kindness. Our world doesn't have enough people like Sunshine and Christina, but we sure seem to have enough of those like Bodhi Tree. That is the greatest sadness I feel. I hope we can figure out a way to multiply those people that can share the love and light that Alan Grant Marcet, aka Sunshine, gave out to others.

    1. Nancy, I was also so glad I got to meet you.

I think the testimony of a packed courtroom and countless of people that have followed this trial show that Sunshine and Christina are still transforming lives. There was no one to speak for Bodhi Tree except his attorneys.

We do need more people like Sunshine and Christina. Even those of us who did not meet Sunshine and Christina have been touched by their love and joy. Like Christina's mom said, they continue to live through us.

Nancy, they will never be forgotten.
